The history of the Marula tree goes back thousands of years and across many generations. The Marula tree is one of the great trees indigenous to Sub - Saharan Africa. It is a medium to large deciduous tree belonging to the same family as the mango, cashew and pistachio nuts. The plum sized super-fruit has an exotic flavor and scent and contains a large hard seed, surrounding two or more edible kernels, rich in oil. It is the oil from the Marula kernel that has come to give the Marula tree its healing status. Women in rural areas crack the fruit by hand to extract the precious kernel and place them into a hand pressing machine, where the magic of Marula is born.
The oil has a clear, pale golden color with a delicate fresh aroma. Marula oil has been used by African women for centuries-- traditionally they massaged it into their hair, skin and nails for extraordinary moisture and protection. The wonderful thing about this oils is that its safe for everyone to use and highly recommended for pregnant women to keep their skin balanced throughout their pregnancy and also to prevent stretch marks. The vitamin C and E it contains help with collagen production and reduces hyperpigmentation.
