RESTORATIVE YOGA POSE TO DE-STRESS DURING THE HOLIDAYS:

Supported Reclining Bound Angle Pose (Supta Baddha Konasana):

This simple restorative yoga pose is the perfect way to unwind and relax during the holidays. When props  such as a bolster and blocks are used to support the pose, it allows the muscles in the body to relax and let go, allowing your stress to melt away.

*If you don't have yoga props, get creative by replacing blocks with books and bolster with a firm pillow.

Pose Benefits:

  • Increases blood circulation in the lower abdomen
  • Can improve digestion
  • Stretches the inner thighs
  • Increases range of external rotation in the hips
  • Calms the nervous system

Sit tall with a bolster behind you at the edge of your pelvis with your knees bent, feet on the floor. Bring the soles of the feet together and the knees wide, with a block under each knee for support. Recline over the bolster so that your entire spine and head are supported. If your chin sticks up at all, place an extra folded blanket under your head so the back of the neck stays lengthened. Roll the arms at the shoulder sockets so the chest broadens. Place palms up or down, or one hand on the belly, one hand on the heart, whichever feels most comfortable for your body. Make any adjustments you need so the body feels completely supported and at ease.

Once you are in the pose, set your timer for 5 - 20 minutes.. the longer the better as it takes 20 minutes of rest for the relaxation response to turn on. Notice how you feel before and after, the difference might be surprisingly huge.

For extra glow, start with taking a few breaths of lavender essential oil, and then place a Bodha Modern Wellness Eyepillow over your eyes once you're in the pose.
