Curie // Sarah Moret

GLOW PEEPS, we’ve found the best natural deodorant. Founded by Sarah Moret in 2018, Curie was built upon a mission to make clean, safe, and effective products for people who move. Sarah has created extremely effective clean deodorant for women building careers, families, companies and lives, and who need a deodorant that can keep up.

Curie is CLEAN. Sarah started this company with a dedication to create effective products that are safe for your body and the environment. Her deodorant has no endocrine-disrupting chemicals, no aluminum, no animal-derived ingredients, no cancer-causing ingredients, no animal testing, and no ingredients on Credo’s Dirty List™. They sustainably source all of our ingredients, and use 100% recyclable packaging, including their mailers which are made up of post consumer recycled (PCR) materials. The real deal glow over here.

Beyond making an amazing product, Sarah has also made giving back a huge part of her mission. Curie was founded in San Francisco where, as many of you know, homelessness is a big and growing issue. Sarah started volunteering with a nonprofit called Simply the Basics, which aims to restore women living in homelessness with their dignity by providing simple (but important) hygiene products we all take for granted, such as toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, and—you guessed it—deodorant. Through stuffing hygiene kits for shelters around the city, and by helping put on Women’s Empowerment Day for homeless women, she was able to make a small difference, but wanted to do more.

They quickly realized their mission needs to include all women, even those who couldn’t afford the luxuries that are so easy to take for granted. Simply The Basics was the perfect organization to help them achieve this.

One stick of Curie Deodorant gets donated to Simply the Basics for every five sold on their website, with the goal of one day having a stick of Curie deodorant in every hygiene kit handed out across the country.

When you choose Curie, you're supporting a brand that strives to help ALL women across the country live healthier lives. Click here if you're interested in donating, volunteering, or learning more about Simply The Basics

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

WHEN YOU’RE EATING HEALTHY, WHAT IS A TYPICAL…

I follow the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time, I eat healthy and clean - lots of fresh vegetables, salads, and lean meat. 20% of the time I eat whatever I want. I love pasta, pizza, and a greasy breakfast every once in a while. It’s all about balance.

BREAKFAST: My own banana walnut oatmeal recipe. It has no sugar added and keeps me full until lunch.

LUNCH: I eat a big salad almost every day for lunch (I usually make it myself, sometimes just make one at Whole Foods if I’m on-the-go). Arugula is my favorite base, with tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, lentils or quinoa, a sprinkle of parmesan, and some avocado if I have it in the house. I usually dress it with a mix of balsamic or red wine vinegar, dijon mustard, fresh dill, olive oil, salt and pepper.

DINNER: Chicken and salmon are my go-to’s. I love fresh herbs, especially dill, and Israeli spices. I usually make some kind of rub combining fresh herbs + lemon + olive oil and bake it in the oven. What I eat on the side depends on my mood and how hungry I am. Sometimes it’s roasted veggies, sometimes it’s a box of Annie’s Mac n Cheese with a little broccoli mixed in. Again, balance :)

SNACK: A bowl of Nature’s Path Smartbran cereal + a half scoop of chocolate plant-based protein powder +  unsweetened almond milk is my go-to lately

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE SPOTS/RESTAURANTS TO EAT HEALTHY?

I am lucky to have tons of healthy options here in LA. I love Gjusta, Cha Cha Chicken, Sugarfish, and Erewhon’s hot bar. I don’t eat out very often though, I love cooking!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INDULGENCE?

As far as sweets go, brownies. I also love pasta and mexican food (especially when I’m down in San Diego). Oh, and spicy margaritas.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE SPOTS/RESTAURANTS TO INDULGE?

My favorite restaurant in LA is Rustic Canyon. The menu is always changing and it’s always amazing. Other favorite spots in LA are Bestia downtown (pasta, of course), Sugarfish for good fresh fish, and a handful of amazing hole-in-the-wall taco shops.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR LAST MEAL ON EARTH?

Spaghetti Carbonara with a legit mountain of grated parmesan cheese on top

WHAT IS THE BEST DISH YOU COOK/ YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE?

I have an aversion to following directions, so I usually get creative in the kitchen and whip up my own creations. My favorite “real” recipe that I follow to a T is Chrissy Teigen’s Lemony Arugula Cacio e Pepe. The first time my boyfriend and I ate it we had a religious experience. It’s incredible.

WHERE DO YOU GROCERY SHOP?

Whole Foods for produce and meat and Trader Joe’s for everything else

TOP 3 ITEMS YOU ALWAYS HAVE IN YOUR KITCHEN?

Hot sauce, coffee, and lemons

WHAT IS YOUR FITNESS REGIMEN? (how often & what you do)

I don’t have a strict regimen. I try to run on the beach a few times per week and do strength training workouts in between. We have a trainer that leads workouts on our Curie Instagram story every Wednesday, so that’s my strength training for the week (and I usually repeat the Wednesday workout again 1-2 times later in the week).

WHAT IS YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE? (products, facials, etc)

I rotate products all the time, but right now during the day, I use Elemis collagen cleansing balm, followed by a few drops of Skinceuticals C E Ferulic serum, topped with a little Cocokind Chia Facial Oil. If I’m going outside, I use EltaMD UV Elements Tinted SPF. At night I use prescription-strength Retinol and a heavy night cream. For my body, I use Sagely Naturals CBD lotion and our new Curie All-over Deodorant Spray on my underarms and body every day. My favorite of our scents is the Orange Neroli. It’s super sexy and fresh.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE MAKEUP/NATURAL BEAUTY PRODUCTS?

I love Cocokind’s whole line of products. I also love Kosas for their color cosmetics, and I have yet to find a good natural mascara (if anyone has a recommendation, send my way!).

IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT 3 PRODUCTS WOULD YOU TAKE WITH YOU?

If I’m being practical: Curie Deodorant Spray, Coola Matte Sunscreen, and Kinfield Golden Hour Bug Spray (I’m just assuming it’s a buggy island!)

WHAT PROFESSIONAL BEAUTY/HEALTH/FITNESS/SPIRITUAL GURUS DO YOU SWEAR BY?

I love The Class by Taryn Toomey. I cried during my first class—it’s a whole emotional, physical, and spiritual release (and a great workout!). There is also an email list I have been part of for almost 10 years called “TUT Notes from The Universe”. They’re daily notes of encouragement written from the perspective of the Universe that are so sweet and comforting. It’s the only email I religiously open up daily (you can sign up here).

TOP 3 FAVORITE SONGS?

This Must Be the Place by Talking Heads, anything by Lake Street Dive. The last show I went to was Louis the Child, so I’ve been listening to them on repeat lately.

MOST-WATCHED MOVIE?

Midnight in Paris

MOST LIFE-CHANGING BOOK?

The Untethered Soul. Chapter 7, specifically. It completely changed how I approach everything, from work to relationships. I re-listen to the whole book every few months on Audible.

FAVORITE SHOPS/BOUTIQUES?

I’m busy and don’t love shopping, so I buy most of my clothes online from Reformation or Revolve.

COOLEST PLACE YOU’VE EVER VISITED?

Wadi Rum desert in Jordan. I went with my boyfriend and some friends last year on the way to a wedding in Tel Aviv, and it was just so different from anywhere I’ve ever been on earth. Cruising through a fire-y red desert in 4x4’s was an experience I’ll never forget.

FAVORITE HOTELS?

I love anything that feels boutique-y and cozy. I go to NYC often for work, and I love staying at The Marlton near Washington Square Park. It feels like a home away from home, and they have a lobby lounge area with a fireplace and velvet chairs where you can work and order coffee or cocktails. In LA, I love Shutters in Santa Monica—it’s right on the ocean and it’s very cute. In San Diego, I love La Valencia in La Jolla. I love staying at hotels.

WHAT IS THE BEST GIFT YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?

My boyfriend got me a beautiful piece of art that has my favorite Marie Curie (my brand’s namesake) quote on it this year for Valentine’s Day. The quote says, “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” I hung it above my desk and it’s a constant reminder to live fearlessly.

MOST PROFOUND HEALING EXPERIENCE YOU’VE EVER HAD?

I had a great therapist while I was living in San Francisco a few years ago, before I started Curie. I started seeing her because I was going through a painful breakup, and we ended up sorting through that in like..two sessions..and spending the months after that focused on my own issues. I made a lot of discoveries during those months that I attribute a lot of my success to today.

WHO ARE YOUR MOST TRUSTED HEALERS?

Am I allowed to say myself? I keep a journal by my bed and write in it a lot. It’s very therapeutic.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE YOU’VE HAD TO FACE AND WHAT DID YOU TAKE AWAY FROM IT?

Starting my company. Failure was always the scariest thing in the world to me. I always had ideas and businesses I would get *this* close to starting, but would chicken out. With Curie, it was a combination of 1) being so incredibly excited and passionate about the idea that I couldn’t sleep and 2) having done a lot of self-work in the months prior that gave me the confidence to just go for it. The biggest take away for me was learning to quiet the fear and self-doubt. It’s there to protect you, but ultimately it will stop you from living the life you really want.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY.

Wake up, go for a long trail run somewhere outside the city, like the Marin Headlands (in San Francisco) or a section of the Backbone Trail (in Malibu). Come home and make a big breakfast, get a facial and/or massage, and then later on meet friends for dinner, drinks, and watch live music somewhere cool.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST VALUABLE GLOW TIP/SECRET?

Being genuinely happy.

FAVORITE QUOTE?

Things turn out the best for those who make the best out of the way things turn out

WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR?

My family and close friends.

WHAT MAKES YOU GLOW?

Belly laughing, swimming in the ocean, cuddling with my niece, catching up with an old friend I haven’t seen in a long time, getting emails from customers whose lives have been improved by our products.
