Anna Ullman
Anna Ullman, of A.E.U. Studio, is a true glow babe. Alongside her fashion-design job, she also devotes her time to creating her own empire of contemporary art. Stunning in it's simplicity, her work is surely to take the art world by storm. A Los Angeles native, Anna Ullman graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Printmaking. After graduation she worked with Kelly Wearstler creating hand- painted prints, then moved to Juicy Couture as a graphic designer. She now works in design at Mother Denim in downtown Los Angeles. When not at work, Anna devotes every spare moment to her painting, producing large works with splashes of bright color, as well as a series of fluid graphic shapes in black and white.
Anna's West Hollywood studio, brimming with art on every surface, reflects her obsession for fine art, design and fashion. “My mom is a designer, so I have been surrounded by design my entire life. I have always been torn between fashion and painting, until one day I realized that I really cannot have one without the other, I need both!” Anna Ullman's @aeustudio instagram is booming. Her powerful abstract paintings have been discovered - big time - by both young and seasoned collectors, and most of her works sell the same day she posts them. We can't help but swoon at every image she posts on her instagram--definitely glow approved.

HOW THEY GLOW QUESTIONNAIRE
NAME: Anna Ullman
NICKNAME: The Nut
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP: Los Angeles
WHEN YOU ARE EATING HEALTHY, WHAT IS A TYPICAL…
BREAKFAST: Apples and Smoothies. Unless it’s the weekend, I don’t like to spend a lot of time making breakfast. I keep it short, sweet and healthy!
LUNCH: I always try to be gluten free for lunch. I usually make salads and soups… I love to make a simple beet, lentil and avocado salad. On the busier days, I order meals from a company called Brian’s Bowls. They make great Paleo meals and deliver them to my office. It’s so much easier for me to eat healthy and light without having to think or plan, which is key for me when I’m running between my job and my art...
DINNER: I love a good roast chicken and vegetables. Salad is always a must! Recently I’ve been addicted to making Gjelina's kale salad without the breadcrumbs.
SNACK: Raw almonds, Trader Joe's low fat string cheese, apples, strawberries, and bananas.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE SPOTS/RESTAURANTS TO EAT HEALTHY? I eat out for dinner a lot whether it’s a date night with my boyfriend or dinner with my friends. Sugarfish and Jinpachi are two of my favorite neighborhood sushi restaurants. La Scala for the Leon turkey chopped salad, and Sycamore kitchen and Clementine for just about anything. Elf is also an amazing vegetarian restaurant in Echo Park that has great food and a cool vibe. I often eat at this new organic market in the arts district called Urban Radish. If you haven’t been you should check it out!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INDULGENCE? A cheese plate.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE SPOTS/RESTAURANTS TO INDULGE? The Tasting Kitchen on Abbot Kinney is hands down one of my top favorite restaurants in LA for food and drinks. Sperenza is my go-to for incredible Pasta. I grew up down the block from Apple Pan- so that’s also a no brainer for me. Recently, I have been on a big Night Market Thai food kick. My favorite dish there is the crab fried rice.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR LAST MEAL ON EARTH? Dan Tana’s chicken Parmesan and a side of pesto pasta.
WHERE DO YOU GROCERY SHOP IN LA? Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Bristol Farms and any Farmers Market
WHAT IS THE BEST DISH YOU COOK / YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE? Sole a la grenobloise (hold the butter and flour). There is nothing like a simple fish and spinach. I also never get sick of a homemade Greek Panzanella salad. Making your own toasted ciabatta and garlic croutons is key (thanks Ina Garten!) My mom also taught me how to make an incredible toasted goat cheese and mixed green salad that gets lots of love (Alice Waters’ recipe).
WHAT IS YOUR FITNESS REGIME? (HOW OFTEN & WHAT DO YOU GO) Pilates, Kettle Bells, and Hiking. I do pilates once a week, I hopefully get to hike once a week (depending on the weather), and I do kettle bells twice a week. I take a kettle bells class on the beach every Sunday with a woman named Missy who has pretty much transformed my body.
WHAT IS YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE? (PRODUCTS, FACIALS, ETC.) I’m pretty old school when it comes to skin care, and have stuck with Cetaphil facial cleanser and Kiehl’s moisturizers forever. I feel that they are very gentle and soft, and really bring out the best in my skin. I also never leave the house without a dash of Le Labo Santal 33. My friend Andrew Mulne is about to launch an incredible fragrance line in the fall. I painted the artwork for the interior packaging, so he gave me a sneak peak of his 3 beautiful scents. There is one in particular that is going to be my new everyday perfume...
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE NATURAL MAKEUP/ BEAUTY PRODUCTS? NARS pure radiant tinted moisturizer SPF 30, Chanel correcteur perfection concealer, NARS Laguna bronzer and mascara… I don’t wear much more then that!
IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT 3 PRODUCTS WOULD YOU TAKE WITH YOU?
1. NARS pure radiant tinted moisturizer SPF
2. Morrocan Oil for my wavy beach hair
3. Good chapstick
WHAT PROFESSIONAL BEAUTY/FITNESS/HEALTH GURUS DO YOU SWEAR BY? When it comes to fitness and overall well-being, whatever my Kettle Bells teacher Missy says, I do. As for beauty, I always turn to my friend and professional hair stylist Charles Dujic. Not only does he make my hair look incredibly beautiful and natural, but he has taught me about natural beauty and make up for as long as I can remember. He really knows how to make you feel like your most beautiful self.
TOP 3 FAVORITE SONGS?

WHAT IS THE BEST GIFT YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED? A pair of stud earrings that my grandmother left me, I don’t take them off.
DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY. My perfect day in California is going to Santa Barbara. I love hanging out on Butterfly beach, and wine tasting in Santa Ynez. I feel so lucky that it only takes two hours to drive to such paradise! But outside of California, my perfect day will always be in Paris. I spent time there studying photography in college, and I’m always missing my long walks on the street or stopping in museums and cathedrals… the cafes and the shopping… It’s my perfect day.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST VALUABLE BEAUTY TIP/SECRET? Less is more and always have good posture!
WHAT MAKES YOU GLOW? My everyday uniform of Mother Denim jeans and a Velvet tee.
