Amanda Shine // The Setting

Amanda Shine, #glowgirl and creator of the newly launched ceramics line The Setting, has created a destination for one-of-a-kind objects you'll use to live, work, eat and entertain.

We couldn't agree more with Amanda Shine's philosophy: "there is nothing more important than spending time with the people who matter most and no better way to do so than over a beautifully created setting." The Setting's gorgeous pottery (perfectly simple bowls, plates, vases and more) are  inspired by Shine's loving memories shared while entertaining friends and family at home. The ceramics can be customized with glowy inscriptions for a special occasion or gift, which we're super excited about. Located in Soho, New York, The Setting’s studio also hosts intimate gatherings to celebrate unique experiences alongside their one of a kind products. Amanda has created a lovely medium through which people can share food, conversation, and connections together.

Amanda has always been a very GLOWY girl. From making her own candles, face creams and soaps, to cooking up beautiful healthy recipes at home...it was only a matter of time before she started her own line so that she could spread her light even furtger. Her last name perfectly describes her-- this chick truly SHINES.

TOP 3 ITEMS YOU ALWAYS HAVE IN YOUR KITCHEN: That’s a tough question! I’ll go with coconut oil, flaky sea salt, & lemons

WHAT IS YOUR FITNESS REGIMEN: Modelfit! It’s a big part of my life and I go 4 to 5 times a week. They have a beautiful studio downtown and the best trainers I have ever worked with. I also run with my boyfriend when weather permits and although I’m not a great runner, I like going over the Brooklyn Bridge and seeing the city from a runner’s point of view.

WHAT IS YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE: My skin is very very sensitive, even relatively bland products can irritate it so I stick to Avène, La Mer and Pratima’s skincare line. She has an amazing Ayurvedic spa in Soho with affordable prices and a wonderful practice. They do beautiful facials and massages for when I need a bit of a break

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE MAKEUP/NATURAL BEAUTY PRODUCTS: I love Charlotte Tilbury products. They are beautifully made and my skin has never reacted to them. I can say that I’m firmly addicted to her Wonderglow foundation and I had never worn foundation until I tried her product. I bought it at Selfridges in October and haven’t looked back. I also love Nars lipsticks. They’re the best. Kiehl’s lipbalm is another key item. There are so many it’s hard to chose favorites! My other go to is the Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear brow pencil. My eyebrows are pretty natural in that I don’t do much to them but I always pencil them in to ensure that they’re even. That & clear skin and you’re ready for anything.

IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON AN ISLAND, WHAT 3 ITEMS WOULD YOU TAKE WITH YOU: La Mer, Klorane dry shampoo, a razor. If I could smuggle in 2 more, I would bring a toothbrush and Kiehl’s Crème de Corps moisturizer.

WHAT PROFESSIONAL HEALTH/BEAUTY/FITNESS/SPIRITUAL GURUS DO YOU SWEAR BY? Vanessa Packer at ModelFit.

TOP 3 SONGS: It’s hard to pick 3 songs. I usually listen to a song on repeat until I’ve exhausted it and then go back to it later but these 3 songs have very visceral memories of growing up and they’re still with me today.

1. That’s My Daughter in the Water – Bob Dylan

2. Forever Young – Jay Z - (this song reminds me of when I moved to New York at 17. We were all running around every night feeling forever young.)

3. By Your Side – Sade

MOST-WATCHED MOVIE: Maybe Love Actually. It’s a sweet movie and I love when it comes on around Christmas. I watch it every time.

Most Life Changing Book: I’m in the midst of reading All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr and it may become the most life changing. It’s beautiful the whole way through.

FAVORITE SHOPS/BOUTIQUES: ReformationABC Home & CarpetZimmermannVedaOchre

COOLEST PLACE YOU'VE EVER VISITED: Colombier Beach in St. Barths & the Parthenon in Greece

FAVORITE HOTELS: Relais Christine in Paris The Connaught in London Hyatt on the Bund in Shanghai

WHAT'S THE BEST GIFT YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED? My grandmother’s coral ring.

MOST PROFOUND HEALING EXPERIENCE YOU'VE EVER HAD: I’m always trying to be better to myself and live a better life.  It takes a lifetime I think. When I was in my late teens/early twenties, I was a model at Ford and it’s why I first moved to New York. It was ultimately not the career path for me. Working to let go of being so critical of myself and of every imperfection was a very positive and healthy transition for me. It opened up a whole new world of work and I’m extremely grateful for every experience that I’ve had because of it.

WHO ARE YOUR MOST TRUSTED HEALERS? Dr. Younga Yoo is the most amazing acupuncturist. She is in Chinatown and a true healer. My best friend Kamaryn introduced me to her.

BIGGEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE? I’ve had a few. I would say most recently after working for a decade in Special Events and Brand Marketing, I decided to move in a new direction and that was the result of one of my last work trips. I am someone who aims to please. I enjoy making people happy and ultimately producing high touch events was a natural fit for me. I understand the quiet and complicated planning that goes into making a truly beautiful event or branded moment. I was working extremely hard for a brand that I didn’t believe in and that become very clear during this particular trip. I had to take a hard look at how I was prioritizing and what I wanted for myself professionally.  The takeaway was to manage expectations from the jump and to work hard at putting your needs first. If you’re happy and healthy it will make you better in every way. Life isn’t a sprint and looking after oneself only becomes more important. It was an eye opening experience and something that I am very grateful to have had.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY: Coffee and breakfast in the sun with my boyfriend and our dog. Maybe at the beach. Letting morning slide into the afternoon and reading a book or swimming. Something simple like that is always the best.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST VALUABLE GLOW TIP/SECRET? Drink water!

FAVORITE QUOTE: "Don’t be a hard rock when you really are a gem" – Lauryn Hill

WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR So many things. I feel extremely grateful for every day and I hope I always do.

WHAT MAKES YOU GLOW? Feeling like I’m where I’m supposed to be in life.
